Overview of the $90 Medicare Part B Rebate
About 20.8 million Original Medicare Part B enrollees are receiving a one-time $90 payment in October 2026. Officially named the Medicare Improvement Fund Premium Rebate, this single payout is intended to offset a portion of the standard Medicare Part B premium, which stands at $202.90 per month in 2026.
It is important to note that this is a one-time payment, not a monthly benefit or a permanent reduction in future Medicare premiums. The payment draws from the Medicare Improvement Fund, a fund created by Congress in 2008 to support traditional Medicare enhancements.
Eligibility Requirements
Not every Medicare enrollee qualifies for this rebate. Eligibility is specific to traditional Medicare enrollees who meet several criteria:
- Included: Qualifying beneficiaries enrolled in Original Medicare Part B residing in the United States.
- Exclusions:
- Individuals enrolled in Medicare Advantage plans.
- Beneficiaries receiving Medicaid assistance for their Medicare premiums.
- Enrollees who pay the higher income-related monthly adjustment amount (IRMAA).
