Social Security Payment Schedule for October 2026

For beneficiaries receiving monthly benefits in the United States, the Social Security Administration (SSA) distributes payments based on birth dates and specific program guidelines. Knowing your scheduled payment date helps you manage your household finances efficiently.

October Payment Dates by Birthday

If you receive benefits through the standard three-Wednesdays cycle, your payment date depends on the day of the month you were born:

  • Born on 1st–10th: Paid on Wednesday, October 14, 2026
  • Born on 11th–20th: Paid on Wednesday, October 21, 2026
  • Born on 21st–31st: Paid on Wednesday, October 28, 2026

Note: If your benefits are based on another person’s employment history, the SSA uses that individual’s date of birth.

Additional October Distribution Dates

Certain recipients fall outside the standard three-Wednesdays schedule:

  • Friday, October 2, 2026: Issued to dual beneficiaries and long-term recipients who began receiving payments before May 1997, as well as concurrent Supplemental Security Income (SSI) claimants.
  • Thursday, October 1, 2026: SSI benefits for October (averaging $738.73 per month) were issued to low-income, low-resource individuals.

2027 Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA)

The SSA announced a 3.6% COLA increase for 2027 to protect beneficiaries against inflation, taking effect with January benefits. Across all recipients, this translates to a roughly $70 increase on the current monthly average payment of $1,941.76. For retired workers, who comprise 77% of all recipients, the adjustment provides an average increase of about $75 per month.

Average monthly benefit benchmarks according to SSA statistics include:

  • Retirement: $2,033.27
  • Disability: $1,498.94
  • Survivor: $1,635.70
